Where to Take Your Key West Bike Rental with the Family

Family vacations are one of the best ways to create memories together and bond. And Key West is a great location for that to happen! If you are in Key West then you have probably noticed that bikes are as common as feet on the island and if you are yet to get yours, you can check out the bike trailer and tug-a-long attachments for our sports cruiser bikes. Key West destination, check. Bike, check. Where to go? There are so many great spots to visit on the Island, but to make the most of your visit, you can check out these locations with your family.

Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park

Located on the southern edge of Key West, this park is the southernmost state park in the United States. Formerly a fort where soldiers defended the nation’s southeastern coastline during the civil war and Spanish-American war, the park has since been rejuvenated into a historic spot. It also houses Key West’s favorite beach, which is perfect for family picnics, swimming, snorkeling, paddling, and fishing. It’s a full day’s fun trip wrapped into one spot.

Ernest Hemingway’s House

If you are staying near Whitehead Street, you and your family can bike down to the former residence of the legendary Ernest Hemingway. Located just down the road from Truman’s Little White House is the house where the prolific writer lived. The home-turned-museum holds memorabilia from the time Ernest Hemingway spent in Key West and it is the perfect destination to check out if your children are in or approaching the high school age. Not only does it give them a perspective at literary history, it can add an educative touch to the holiday trip.

Old Town

One of the best places to visit or lodge in Key West is the Old Town area. True to its name, Old Town is home to some of the oldest spots in Key West. You can do a mini tour of Old Town with your family and check out Mallory Square and the Old Town tours.

Key West Lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters Museum

Located nearly opposite Ernest Hemingway’s House, the Key West Lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters Museum is an historic landmark operated by the Key West Art & Historical Society. If your kids are active, they can join you on the climb up the 88 iron steps to the top of the tower and enjoy the scenic view. At this spot, you can find displays of antique finishings and artifacts.

Key West Aquarium

Thrill your kids with beautiful water creatures at the impressive Key West Aquarium. On Whitehead street and just a minute walk from Mallory Square, the Key West Aquarium is home to a jellyfish and shark exhibit. Your kids will definitely be excited for the touch tank and they’ll get to learn some facts on the Sea Turtles Conservation Tour.
